TL;DR: Themes + code reverted. New style will go live eventually. Nothing to see here, carry on.
So the news yesterday was the introduction of a new theme here on the site. This garnered a LOT of feedback from users, with some nice breakdowns, some good constructive posts, and a whole bunch of polarised opinions thrown in for good measure.
So what went wrong? Well, firstly, and this is a valid point - not enough end-user feedback was gotten during the construction process. Secondly, the colour schemes chosen weren't "good enough" for a lot of people. Thirdly, the layout of the download browse pages and the member profiles came in for a lot of flak. Lastly, there seemed to be some client and server side performance issues. All of these I will be addressing. But the main point is that I've reverted the entire site *and* the codebase back to the old version. It's just not possible to run both at the same time so this was the only option.
What went right? Well, I believe that HTML5 and CSS3 *are* here to stay, same with the larger thumbnails and responsive design. A lot of you *did* like the ... read more

As quite a few of you may have already noticed, EA has officially announced that The Sims 4 will be released next year! I'm far too lazy to decode the simlish message, but I'm sure if you all mosey on over to the Sims discussion forums, you'll find plenty of people who aren't.

Hello MTSers! Now that the dust is just about settled from our recent upload queue revamp and all the shenanigans that went on yesterday, it’s time we got our official competitions back on track!
 Multicultural Create Competition
Our recent Cultural Diversity Create Competition is officially closed. Well done to those who participated! We’ll start collating and judging pretty soon and have the results to you by the end of the month.
Multicultural Sim/Photo Competition
Over the last three months we’ve been asking you to make or build something from different cultures around the world that interest and inspire you. Well now the photographers, story tellers and contest fans among you will get your turn!  This isn’t a beauty contest or a fashion contest: we want you to make a sim to represent a country of your choice then use that sim to teach us a little something about that country and the people that inhabit it. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Multicultural Create Competition
I'm sure many of you have been wondering the status of the Multicultural Create Competition. As you may know, it was extended to cover the time that uploads were shut off. With our upload system back up and running, we've decided to extend the deadline to March 31st. That means you have just over 2 weeks to spruce up those entries and get them uploaded! Good luck!
Photo Challenge
As we announced in this post, we would be alternating Photo and Create Challenges for the site. With the Multicultural Create Competition coming to a close, a new Photo Challenge will soon be posted. Keep your eyes out for that as it will all be revealed in time!

Introducing the New and Improved Upload Moderation System!

At last, I hear you cry! Those of you who have been paying attention will know that we turned uploads off some weeks ago, to spring clean the queue (although special props go to the tiny genius who posted a simsecret mocking us for being so unpopular that nobody uploaded anything for a whole month).
In addition to spring cleaning the queue, the wonderful Delphy has coded us a totally new moderation system, which we hope will make uploading quicker, easier, and a much happier experience for creators and staff. We think this new system is going to make uploading here a pleasure, so please, do read on for the details.
The Old System
For those of you who have never uploaded here, haven't done so in many years, or who just have horrendous memories, a rough outline of the old system:- You beetle away, make your shiny object/lot/world/sim/outfit/whatever, and upload it via the Upload Wizard.
- You wait - ideally 24 hours, officially 72-96 hours, sometimes even longer - for us to assess your upload and decide what to do with it.
- Then, you get EITHER a PM saying that your upload has been approved, yay! Return true and Standard Exit.
- OR, you get a PM saying that your upload is good and can be approved shortly, but there are some things that need to be fixed up. This PM is accompanied by a big list of all the stuff you did wrong.
- OR, you get a PM saying that your upload needs a significant amount of changes before it can be approved here, and you should work on it long-term and then upload again in future. This PM is also accompanied by a big list of all the stuff you did wrong.
I know there will be a few people currently yelling criticisms at their monitors. Yes, I agree with you!  Let me go through and explain, first, how the new system works, and second, why it improves on many of the problems with the old system.

In order to start 2013 with as clean a slate as possible, I've turned off the upload wizard, so that no new items will be allowed to be uploaded to MTS for a little while. This will give the staff a chance to clear out the queues, and for us to have a bit of downtime before they get turned on again. Existing uploads wont be affected - they'll still be moderated as normal, but everybody needs a break from time to time, and spring cleaning is always a good thing. It'll give us the chance to discuss the past year, and to think of new ways to tackle things - so please be patient with us while we carry out this process.
